erica the dog?

Last night was my daughters school play. Her school is lucky enough to have a drama program as one of the literacy options. They call their reading/English section of the day Literacy. They have eight different programs to help with the various literacy needs of the students, from reading recovery to writing, drama and online research type of classes. The children are broken up into their reading level, and it is not grade specific, but level specific. Which allows each child to get the attention they need dependant on the skills that child has.

So Erica was in drama this trimester and their play was beauty and the beast. Erica of course played the dog who was the footstool. We were not surprised when she came home with that part. Erica playing an animal? Nooooooo, she never does that. (heavy sarcasm) There are days when she makes better animal noises then the animals do. I’m a little disappointed that Erica didn’t get one of the main parts since she has really good stage presense and can sing and speak clearly and loudly, but I know she got the part she really wanted. It’s been fun watching my kids do plays, last year was a treat because they did The Princess and the Pea, and all the songs came from a play called “Once upon a Mattress” which is the musical which had Carol Burnett playing the princess. I did this play in high school and played the mintrel, who is the story teller of the play, so it was ironic for me to see my daughter doing that play.

Now this drama class lets the children pick their favorite stories, create the script, and if possible, make their costumes. They make their own set designs and build them. So the children get a really good look at the whole process of creating a play. Alex will be in the drama class this next trimester which he is excited about. Because our kids are high achievers in reading it allows them the opportunity to take advantage of the drama class.

Being a performer myself, of course I love to watch my kids perform and see them succeed. But I don’t think they get quite the thrill out of it that I always do. Alex and Erica are more into his comic creation and her animals. Both our kids are writers, and good ones at that. I have been lucky to have two kids who are smart and so willing to work for what they want. Although Erica is a little lazy like her mom, she has already achieved more in her life then I did at that age.

As for my life, I’m excited that my boss has decided to give his employee’s a gym membership. At negligable cost to us he has gotten us memberships at 24hr. Fitness, which is quite expensive. We are responsible for only half of the monthly dues, he paid for everything else. I’m excited cause now I have access to a way for me to get this darn weight off. I’m 225 or so, my weight jumps 10 lbs in any direction, but the average is 225 and my body is unhappy, to say the least. So we will be taking full advantage of the opportunity.

On a lighter note, I’m going to start a humor section, as soon as hubby can set it up. I have collected alot of jokes over the last couple of years and to lighten things up, I’ve decided to post one a day. So if you have any good ones, please send them to me.

Why yes, I DO overcomplicate things. Your point?
