I love my job
As I do every saturday, I had a wedding to DJ. And like last week, I had to provide a sound system for the ceremony.
It was an outdoor wedding at the home of the bride’s parents. And it was huge and beautiful and there were over 300 guests. I don’t get to do big weddings very often. 100 people is really the average for weddings nowadays.
Anyway, the location was gorgeous and you could see Mt. Hood and the tip of Mt. Adams in the background over the hills. They had three fountains running on their grounds and they found a way to incorporate them at their best for the event. I was in Salem out in the boonies and it was just wonderful. Because it was overcast all day, the sunset was just amazing. Everyone took alot of photo’s of the setting sun.
My job went off without a hitch. This was a great group, they were mostly college age kids, many were from Nebraska when the groom went there for college. And the bride and groom were the two best people I think I’ve met in a long time. All brides and grooms are gracious and fun, but these two were very caring people, and it showed in every life they touched. Everyone was in tears during the ceremony, me too, but for differnet reasons. And everyone stayed and partied till the end.
I was nervous about the dancing part of the evening, because it was outside, and we were ending just at sunset. Most people won’t dance unless it’s dark and they can be invisible. Not this crowd. Either I’m just figuring out what music to play to really make people dance or I’m just getting really good groups this year. Of course, you know your doing good when the grandmas and grandpas get up and dance with the hip hop music.
I got so many compliments this time, everyone said I put on the smoothest wedding they had been to so far, and with a group this big, there had been many weddings. Not only did they make sure to tip me, but the Dad of the bride had everyone give me a big round of applause after we sent off the bride and groom to their honeymoon. I’ve never had that happen before. It also turns out that I had done the reception for the mother of the brides best friend’s daughter, so while no one asked specifically for me for this event, they were pleased when they found out that I was their Dj. I’ve done several receptions where someone was at a lousy wedding, where the Dj just stunk, and then they go to an event that I’ve done and loved my job that they had to have me. I tell you what, knowing that people feel they can depend on you to do a good job really makes you feel good. I love this job!
