Weekend Wrapup

I had another busy weekend. I worked two weddings, one at a vinyard and another at Cannon Beach.

The first one on Friday was at Beckenridge Vineyard down in Dallas Or. What a beautiful place. They have this adorable house that is perfect for intimate get-togethers. Not a location for a party over 150 I would think. The banquet house sits right next to a vinyard and there is a garden area that is perfect for outdoor nuptials. Your on a hill so you can see the mountains and the view is just gorgeous. Vineyards always are gorgeous for some reason.

The wedding went smoothly, everyone seemed to have a good time and I got lots of hugs from the Bride and Groom.

Saturday’s event had me back in Cannon Beach. I’m coming to love it there. Surfsand was again my destination but this time I was in their Haystack Gardens location across the street. Another house with a huge, and I mean huge, garden area. I heard someone say they could fit 300 outside. It’s gorgeous and huge. I was out on this little patio which also was the dancefloor. Fortunately it was a late evening wedding so by the time the dancing started the sun had gone down and my lights could be put to best effect.

I see alot of Brides and Grooms, and this Groom was so much in love. Apparently he fell in love with the Bride when they were in high school, but then she graduated, and he didn’t see her for awhile, he tried to keep tabs on her and every so often would make it so they would be around each other for a bit. She apparently only thought of him as a friend, as she was a year or two older. After college he lost track of her again and then found her a few years later, where he then proceeded to write a FIVE page letter about what he’d been doing, and how he felt about her.

To say the least, during this story the Best Man was telling, there was NOT a dry eye in the house, mine included. I think it’s safe to say that this Bride never needs to worry about not being wanted, not after being chased over a TEN year period.

I’m so jealous. Yup my skin is green.

Anyway, the party went smoothly and everyone stayed till the end, which none of the staff thought would happen because it was going till 12. But this crowd liked to party and danced the whole night. I love party crowds. It makes my job so much easier.

The group at SurfSand had asked for me specifically, of course, I’m the referred Dj at SurfSand, but they apparently heard from some of the staff that I take charge and put on a good event. I always tell my people, especially the Mom’s, that it’s my job to worry, their job to just enjoy their children’s wedding. They seem to really appreciate that. SurfSand as always did an excellent job. They have the best food, and a really hard working staff.

I’m definately going to have to think about becoming a wedding coordinator when I’m done being a Dj. I’m good at pulling off an event. My only hang-up though is that I suck at decoration. I think I would need a creative partner on this…I don’t know, I need to talk to a couple of boutique owners that I know. But that is several years away, I’m really happy being a wedding Dj.

Sunday was a good day as well. Despite the fact that it was 2am when I got home. (pulled into the driveway at exactly 2:00, neat trick yah?) We were late to church because I ignored my alarm and kept sleeping. But my classes went well and choir went really well. We’re performing next week so we had to make sure everything was working smoothly. This is the first song where I’m being selfish and singing a solo. I don’t want to use the choir as just a way for me to get to sing more often. While I have one of the best voices in our ward,(which may not be saying much) I don’t like to brag about it or show off. And I think arranging it so that I sang solo’s all the time in the choir would be really tacky.

Stupid stuff update: I’m still holding strong at 200lbs. I bounce around five pounds either way, which is normal for me. I feel pretty good. I can tie my shoes without losing my breath and seeing stars. My clothes are no longer tight. YAY!!!!!
I’m having to consider actually buying clothes that are size 18 not 20, and my extra large t-shirts are no longer tight. I tell ya, it feels so good not to see your clothes pulled tight across your body.
My ring indent is still there, it’s not deep anymore but is still visible and it’s been what, almost three months?
I still hate night times, cause I can’t sleep, I just sit there and feel like a total idiot. I fall asleep in exhaustion and wake up feeling exhausted…we’re doing good.(heavy sarcasm)
I have something to keep my mind off me though, a very good friend of mine just got his ring back from his fiancee. He’s still in shock and hopefully they can work things out, he absolutely adores her, he always talks about her. He’s just crushed. He’s helped me so much during my bad times, I only hope I can be as good a shoulder for him as he’s been for me.

I’m all about court house weddings. Maybe it’s just me.. but I got engaged in march and the idea of planning a wedding and doing invitations, announcements, place cards, the whole mess is just daunting. Bleh.

You know, there are so many ways to streamline a wedding reception. If you do a buffet, place cards are unnecessary. There is no need to go all out to look elegant. Remember, people are at the reception to celebrate with you. You don’t need to get crazy with decorations to have a good party.
