another Christmas weekend
We are off on another Christmas weekend. This friday and saturday I will be dj-ing a school dance and a christmas office party. The christmas office party is not a problem, the school dance is another thing. I have a difficult time with schools, The teachers and parents want no rap played, and that’s all the kids are listening to, that’s all they want played. It’s difficult to find a balance. I’m good with the mid-twenty and up group, they want to hear eighties, seventies and some newer stuff. But trying to find the “clean” rap songs to play to 12 year olds in very difficult. It would be so helpful if the rappers would keep in mind that children are listening to their songs, that rap is becoming the mainstream choice of music in the kids. One of the most popular songs right now is Nelly’s “Hot in here”, I did one dance and that song was the most requested song. None of the parents even knew of the song, and when they asked me what the lyrics said, I sang them the chorus, and the looks on their faces was amusing. Their mouths dropped and they said no, that is not appropriate. And I’m thinking, don’t these guys ever listen to what their kids are playing?
So rappers, if you ever figure out that your audience now includes pre-pubesant children, I would love to have clean rap to play. There are more things to rap about then just having sex and how much drugs you can buy.
