way to busy this week
Well, this past week has been interesting, above all, I’m tired. Plain and simple, no questions asked. I love being a Dj, doing christmas parties is the best, but it can be exausting. And I’m ready for dead January. But my events have gone well and ppl had a good time. They even tipped me as well, which I never expect since so many ppl don’t bother anymore. I assume that they are thinking that I’m getting the three to five hundred they have just paid, but no, as a contract Dj working for someone else, I only get my little cut of that. I’ve had several ppl try to tell me I should be in business for myself. And my attitude is no way. I like being handed my paperwork each week, I don’t have to book anything, or deal with office stuff. I can spend my week being with my kids and then just go to wherever I’ve been assigned. This is a great job for a Mom. I don’t have to buy the music, or keep up the equipment. Very easy, all I have to do is go play. However, eventually I’m not going to be interested in hauling this stuff around, I think that’s when I become a wedding coordinator. But we’ll see, we aren’t at that point yet.
The other little gems of the week have been discovering our roof has a six foot crack in the shingles, and the landlords are just sure I should have noticed it earlier. To say they are not happy, since I discovered all this by a major leak in the ceiling that I never noticed getting wet, is putting it mildly. But worrying about it is not going to help, so I need to relax on this, all we can do is roll with the punches.
My church choir which I have been conducting had our performance this last sunday. And it went really well. They did great and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. So now I have “credentials” as a conductor at church. (chuckles) Since we do not get paid for the jobs we do at church it’s not like this is a job opportunity. But it is responsiblity, a chance to develop skills and have alot of fun. And I like that, my ward (our word for congregation) hasn’t had a choir in two or three years, so everyone is excited and we have a respectable size choir at 18 ppl. I still can’t get over the fact that I have more men then women in my choir. The only down side to all this is that I don’t get to be a singer as much now, hard to sing in the choir when your directing it. And singing is what I really like doing. I’m a strong alto and I have to admit, I’m a little bummed about leading this choir instead of singing in it. But only a little. (chuckles) There are still lots of ways to sing in my church and I’m planning on taking advantage of them.
