It’s all about the fear
One of the things that really bugs me about things that excert control in our lives is that they use fear to do it.
For some it’s religion…Believe in God or go to hell!
For some it’s commercial…Oh my goodness, if you don’t buy the lastest and greatest your LIFE WILL BE WORTHLESS AND YOU’LL NEVER BE HAPPY!
For some it’s popularity in entertainment…If you are not looking just like the most popular celebrities then you’ll never be happy, and no one will ever like you!
For some it’s the media…OH! NO! If you don’t watch our programing right now you’ll never know what’s going on and you’ll be out of the loop, and oh my goodness what if there’s a disater you MUST ABSOLUTLEY know about right that minute. OR IF you don’t watch our shows you’ll be so out of the loop in pop culture and be uncool!
For some it’s politics…It’s the conservatives fault, or it’s the liberals fault. It’s always someone else’s fault and if your not afraid of everything and vote for me you could lose all your money!
And fear is in everything, fear of medicine, illness, germs, crime, black people, jews, white people, chinese people, arabs, purple people eaters, the blob….
Yes, I got ridiculous there but you see my point. I hate to sound anti establishment, but there is no reason to be afraid of everything. Despite everything, we still live in the safest time in history, at least for most of us. While there are exceptions, the chances of you being blown up on a plane, or having your water poisoned, or being an outcast because you don’t blow your nose with the right tissue and don’t watch the hippest news shows are really flipping small. You won’t die if you aren’t wearing the hippest jeans, you won’t die if you don’t catch the news which is airing 3 month old news IF it even bothers to talk about the news.
Any moron should be able to figure out that a God who loves his kids is not going to torment you for just doing the best you knew how, and that those believe or else statements only belong to those who actually BELIEVE!( you know that whole responsiblity of knowledge thing.) And there is no reason to be afraid of conservatives or liberals because they are just labels the other guys use to make you afraid enough to vote for them. When you realize that your neighbor is just trying to do the best for his family, it makes using fear in politics just a stupid tactic to make you vote a certain way.
And the media is using fear so that you’ll watch their programs so that they can charge more money from advertisers. Have you seen how much fluff is on a news program nowadays? How much actual news to you really see? What really kills me is that half the time my foriegn friends know stuff weeks before we are ever told on our news programs.
Being afraid is a useless emotion. Fear is used to control people so that others can get what they want. When you remove fear, you remove control.
