Wednesday and some thoughts on spiritual things.
Well, I have spent the last couple of days basically just floating along. Not really doing much.
Got started on cleaning my bedroom. It’s a total disaster. But I’ve got one corner semi clean. I can at least walk around my computer without tripping on anything.
Taxes were sent in this week. We should have our refund back in two weeks and then we’ll have fun filing our divorce and getting moved.
I recieved phone calls for my dad yesturday from people who didn’t know he had passed yet. And I recieved the thank you cards from my mom to give to various people who sent flowers and stuff for the funeral. I’m to give them in person. Between that and the phone calls, yesturday was a useless day for me.
I’m going to be seeing Mel Gibson’s The Passion this friday. A friend of mine wants to see it, and figures I’ll be the only person he’ll really be able to discuss it with, since we like to talk about religion. However, I have been sorely disappointed with most hollywood versions of Christ’s life that I have seen. And this movie only concentrates on the last 12 hours of his life. So far, none of the versions I have seen ever touch on the garden of gethsemene and if they do mention it, they really screw it up.
It only points out how truely misunderstood the role of the Savior has become. I left my chat room in disgust tonight because of the nonsense that was being spewed by various fundy believers and non believers.
As I watch these conversations happen, I’m once again thankful for the clear understanding of the role of the Savior that mormons hold. As I sit here and watch everyone bicker I’m just appalled at the lack of understanding that people fall into. I see various people posting their views of things and I have to wonder….do they think about what they are saying?
People like to talk about how we LDS types are crazy because we believe a 14 year old boy saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. At least us crazy people have an understanding of God that is not mystified, incomprehensible, or unclear. Yes , we have a very detailed view of who Christ is, who God the Father is, who the Holy Ghost is, we see the gospel as one complete whole from BEFORE the time of adam in the garden to now. Our understanding of the Fall of Adam and the Atonement of Christ makes this whole thing one really easy picture to understand.
I’ve been told by people that we limit God by making him understandable. I roll my eyes to this statement. Yes…we believe God is a resurrected Man who holds all the glory in the universe, which means he is responsible for everything in the universe…which means he is bound by all the rules that go with those responsiblities. I don’t know why it’s such a difficult concept, but people really don’t like it when you start saying that God is a responsiblie member of this universe we live in. And they don’t like it if you dare to say that God has requirements upon him that prevent him from just doing whatever the hell he wants. Just because God has the power to do whatever he wants, doesn’t mean he is able to do whatever he wants.
People often ask, “why would God require or ask things of us, or need to test us…etc, etc.” Ask yourself this….if a parent was going to give his child a responsiblity that was so huge they would be bound by every rule there could ever be….how do you prepare a child for said glory. How do you make sure that your child could handle said responsiblity?
Think “glory” doesn’t mean responsiblities? Consider this…in the bible is says that the greatest blessing that can be achieved is called Eternal Life. A blessing that is referred to in 2 Corinthians 4:17 as an ” exceeding and eternal weight of glory”. Mormons have a corresponding verse in their Doctrine and Covenants that says, and I’m paraphrasing here, “patience in needed to handle this exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”
Okay..so we have Eternal life, which is a “glory” that is described as a weight. An exceeding and eternal weight. Weight? You mean this glory is heavy? As far as I’m concerned the only way glory could be heavy is if it’s a burden. And the only way it could be a burden is if it’s a responsiblity.
So..eternal life is an exceeding and eternal responsiliblity. Doesn’t sound like a walk in the park does it? We get a further clue to this responsiblity by looking at Romans 8:17 and the first chapter of Hebrews. The verse in Romans calls us the heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. So Christ is an heir of God..and if we do all that is commanded of us, as Christ did all that was commanded of him…then we get the same inheritance as Christ because we are JOINT heirs.
So we are equal heirs. What did Christ inherit? Go to the first Chapter in Hebrews. Verse 2 says Christ is appointed heir of all things. So Christ is going to inherit all things. How good is this inheriance…in Verse 4 it says that the inheritance is better then what the angels have. If you go further into this first chapter you find a discussion between God the Father, and his appointed Heir, who has been chosen to be the Christ. Hebrews 1: 8-9 ; But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of they kingdom. Thou has loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therfore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above they fellows.
So Christ was made a God by his Father who was a God. If Christ is an heir of God, and he gained the ultimate inheritance, then we are also in line to inherit this ultimate blessing.
HOWEVER, a loving parent doesn’t overburden his children with responsiblities they are not ready for. So once again, you have to ask yourself…How does a Parent prepare His children for such an awesome responsiblity?
I’ll tell you one thing….I cannot imagine the planning, organization, attention to details and who knows what else it must take to get countless billions of children through this process of life to immortality and hopefully to Eternal life. Limited? I don’t think so.

All I wanted was to check out Digitalcity.com weekender. They were talking about a restaurant in NW called “Stir Crazy.” I wondered if they had a website so I typed in key words, “Stir Crazy, Portland Oregon.” Low and behold I have sat here for the better part of 45min reading about you. By the way I’m truly sorry for your loss.
I have sat here reading about a snow storm that none of us will soon forget and about your impending divorce. It occurred to me that I was invading your privacy. Where else but the world wide web could this happen. Anyhow,
Life will get better and if it doesn’t, Go out have a drink and maybe it will either make you numb enough you don’t care or make you have fun enough you just don’t care.
Lifes to short, Go to Oba and meet some interesting men.
Thanks again for your writing
Elaine
