Oh, we just LOOOOOOOOVE life, don’t we.

Okay, here’s a run down on what’s happened this weekend. You may need to put on your tennis shoes to keep pace.

Thursday night: PTA meeting. Last one of the year, the day before the school dance. I kept thinking, people will come so they would know what the dance was about if nothing else, and see who next year’s officers would be. Despite the fact that no one but three of us has come to the last four meetings. Nope…not a soul except the three of us who have come to every meeting. Which means, I get the lucky job of being PTA president next year, AGAIN!!! The other person agreed to be the VP, we have no treasure or secretary so far. Oh JOY!

As for the dance on friday, I should have taken the warning from the night before. We planned for 150, 60 showed up. I had been running around picking up all the food and everything. But I had a blast as the DJ, and the kids had an awesome time with limbo and a hoolahoop contest. However, financially the dance was a loss for our PTA. Fortunately, the principle loved it and wants to do it again, but plan it for a month where we’re not gearing up for so much end of the year stuff.

Saturday, was okay, all things considered. I got to sleep in, went and picked up my paycheck, bummed around the house a little bit. I found out I was training another dj two hours before I left for my event. But it went smoothly, overall. We were at the Riverside Country Club. Very expensive private golf course. Memberships at this place cost a minumum 20K per person, then there are monthly dues. I can’t imagine being in a position to do something like that. I don’t think I”m the kind of person who would anyway.

Anyway, Ron was a great guy to train. This was the second time I’d taken him out on an event. I let him put the system up and mostly tear it down. Ron is an interesting person. He has a relatively good bead on things for a late twenties school teacher who loves the outdoor activities that oregon is so well known for. It was an odd group. Mostly mid thirties or older parents and family. The older poeple did most of the dancing. The younger crowd shmoozed and drank until the last hour, and then the older crowd sat down and the young kids took up. They lasted the entire time of the event which we didn’t think would happen as hardly anyone was dancing who was under 40 until that last hour. Lots fo fun, but strange. It was good for Ron to see it though. He was going out of his mind with worry that we were just bombing. I had to reassure him that some events are this way and then taught him what to look for in the audience that told him he was still doing a good job.

As I watched all the dances I couldn’t help but think of last summer, and how difficult all those weddings and receptions were for me. But you know, I’m glad I went to those events now. Every week I get my faith in love over hardship renewed. I get to see stories of love that had to really work hard to succeed and I need to see that.

At some point in the evening, and I don’t know when, I wrenched my body somehow. All I know is that I wake up sunday morning and my entire body is sore. My knee is inflammed, my toes are sore, I have this huge bruise on my front leg and my neck and arms and shouldars are as stiff as can be. As I sit down in church my hip decides it also has to kick in. GREAT. However, I get good news. There is some extra space at the Tumalo camp grounds this next weekend and a family has invited us to share their spot with them.

I should explain what Tumalo is. About 40 years ago, two families in my ward started having their family reunion on Memorial Day weekend at this camp site. Over the years, they slowly invited the ward to join them. It’s bizarre. I’ve been in this ward for 9 years, and every year 95% of the ward head down to Tumalo. We’ve never gone before. This year, not only was I told we’re going but I’m being told that I can use camping equipment that others aren’t using who decided not to go this year. COOL!!!

Now here’s the kicker…I go over to one lady’s house to pick up stuff and my starter dies when I go to start the van after loading it up with her stuff. I was already taking it in to replace the hoses to my cooling system before going to Tumalo this weekend, but now I have to replace the starter.

*sigh*

The cost of this just might kill the trip. We’ll have to see. What’s funny though, is that when I realized what was wrong, I just sighed and started talking about what I would do to get the car moved and and the lady I was borrowing stuff from just looks at me and says, “You have too many things happen if you can just sigh over this” I smile and said, “Yes, I’ve had quite the year.” Oh well, we’ll do what needs to be done and see where that leaves us.
