A Whirl Wind
I’m so sorry to not have been posting anything this last week. I’ve been a little…okay ALOT distracted.
BG came and visited me on Friday. It was a last minute, “Hey, I just found out I’ve got a three day weekend and I’m coming down” kind of thing. We spent the day at OMSI and had a great time doing stuff. Saw the Titanic exhibit. One part of it was stupid though…they were talking about rusticles…these little organisms that are eating away at the steel of the structure. So they build this big tunnel of rusticles with all the little bumpls and stuff and looks perfect for scaling….only to see a “don’t climb” sign. BG and I looked at each other and laughed at the silliness of building something perfect for children to climb on with all the hand and foot holds you can ask for and then put up a sign that says “don’t climb”. RIIIIIIIGHT!
We had a good time doing all the fun experiements and had fun with some paper airplanes and splashing water at each other in the turbine room.
Afterwards we went home and he played chess with the kids before we left for dinner. We were going to go dancing but decided to get the game Clue and bring it home to the kids instead. The kids had gone to bed so we listened to some music and talked about things. I’ll tell you what, it’s really nice to talk to someone who has the same basic life goals. The fact that we’re both Mormon and so we understand what we’re striving for and what we want to do or hold important. It really is a wonderful change of pace.
It’s a four hour drive between Portland and Bellingham so he crashed on my floor and in the morning watched cartoons with my kids. It was a fun morning. He taught the kids how to play Clue and then when Greyduck showed up, we played a fast round of scrabble with five people. It was alot of fun.
He left for home as I left for my event. I haven’t had this good a time in a very, very long time. My event went very smoothly, although everyone was smashed, and it was funny to watch all these white marines and their girlfriends and a bunch of firefighters and such party and get drunk, while a black wedding was happening in the other location at the restaurant we were at. Between my rock and roll and their rap it was kind of funny. But we were outside and they were inside so there wasn’t much music bleeding through the walls, but those guests at the other wedding were having a fun time chuckling over the drunk white guys dancing. I could see it in their faces as they talked outside of the room they were using. And I couldn’t blame them…my group was nuts. They were a blast..but nuts.
Sunday was it’s usual with church and choir and today has been a very special day….I’ve been smiling all day. And it’s all due to a wonderful ecard and invitation GB sent me to visit him up in Bellingham. My kids are leaving for arizona this saturday, and my babysitting girls will be watched over by their oldest sister who’s coming into town in two weeks. So, I think I’m finally going to get that vacation I’ve been screaming for this last year.
I can’t wait!
