Fun Weekend

I had a ball this weekend. Friday saw me Dj-ing a swing dance for my church. It started out a kid activity, but our bishop, once he heard about it, turned it into a ward (our word for congregation) activity. I brought my system and set up and played mostly 50’s swing music. It was a really fun two hours. I got told by several people that I did a great job and that they loved the games and dances I made them do. After losing the chance to Dj my kid’s school dance because of gossip, this was such a boost to my ego.

On saturday, I did a wedding. This was an interesting event because of the fact that dinner was in a seperate room from the dancing. I usually don’t care for this, cause it means that while people eat their cake, I cannot do the protocol dances so that when everyone is finished we are ready to boogie. The grooms family was from Spain, and except for their accents you wouldn’t even know they were spanish. We American’s I think are so used to mexicans and people from other parts of Latin American that we forget that the people in spain are very fair ppl. However, I love playing latin music and it’s great to watch people who know how to dance to it. With the family being european, they did a european style dinner, which means that it involved several courses and took three hours. Even though I was a little dismayed at the time dinner was taking, I soon realized that I didn’t have the couple’s first dance song. I had left it at home. Thanks to that lengthy dinner, I was able to run home, which was only five minutes away and get back before they were ready for the toast. With dinner taking three hours it was ten o’clock before we got to their first dance, I was afraid that with it being so late and there only being two more hours to go, I’d loose alot of people for dancing. WRONG. Every one stayed and everyone danced. I never realized that the benefit of a lenghty dinner is that everyone gets all the time they neeed for family visiting. By the time we got dancing, they were ready to dance. In fact if the hotel had allowed it we would probably have kept going for another hour or two.

So that is my weekend, Sunday was just church and choir practice. However hubby did take off with friends and was gone for ten hours. I don’t mind him having friends. And I’m glad he has people who like spending time with him. And even though this doesn’t apply to his currant group of friends, I have spent most of our marriage not being liked by the people who have been my hubby’s friends. So when he takes off shortly after I get home from church and doesn’t come back until 11 at night. I get just a little irriated. It’s irrational, of course the fact that I don’t really have any friends either doesn’t help. Like I said before, this group he’s with now are really great people and they don’t seem to mind me that much. But it still is a sore point when he takes off all day.
