The Village
Last night I went out with a friend who took me to see The Village. For those of you who may have been disappointed with Unbreakable and Signs, and may have thought M. Night Shyamalan was loosing his touch will be satisfied that his story telling skills are as good as ever.
This is a fantastic film. Well told, well executed, the music and flow of the story is excellent. The twists and turns of the story flow and unfold to tell an excellent story about a group of people who were overwhelmed by death of loved ones and are tring to make a new life for themselves, free from the pain of living in the towns. Only to have another problem to deal with.
Willam Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, Joaquin Pheonix, Adrian Brody, Bryce Dallas Howard and everyone else in this movie all give wonderful performances. This story takes you in and holds you captive. The unfolding of these characters’s stories holds you in suspense in all the right spots, frightens you in all the right spots and reveals itself in all the right spots.
If you can’t tell, I loved this movie. It was excellent. And while it doesn’t need to big screen so you can wait for it to come to video, you won’t feel you wasted your money by seeing it in a theater either. Both myself and my friend really enjoyed this movie.

I LOVED Unbreakable. But The Village was trying too hard to offer a big payoff ending and, well, it didn’t offer it. It gave us two (or maybe three) twists — one fairly good, one ridiculous (the third expected) — smack dab in the middle of the movie.
Anyway, I didn’t like it.
Sorry to disagree, though. I’m glad you loved it.
I did think the acting was great.
I hated the sappy porch scene, though. Why? Oh why?

The sappy porch scene went toward character motivation. She had to have a reason to want to walk through that forest. I wouldn’t mind getting told what she was told though. But then I’m a romantic.

Oh, I can’t wait to see this movie! And I love Sigourney Weaver. I really liked Signs, and Geoffrey complained about the sappy scenes in that one, but they made sense to me.
