First Day of School
Well, yesturday went pretty well. I took each child to school for the first day. My daughter hooked up with her friends very quickly and I was able to say hi to some parents who had had kids over the summer holiday and play with their babies. Very cute. Erica is sharing a locker with one of her friends so she was excited about that. And she’s also sitting at a table full of boys. Shes the only girl at the table. It may help her to focus better, but I’m not sure how the boys will do. Of course, Erica is part tomboy and isn’t quite girly enough for some of the boys…so that may help keep down boys fawning over her this year.
I then took Alex to school. His schedule this year is very specialized. He has been put into a ninth grade reading and writing level and this class also gets to write the school newspaper. He is also one of only 11 kids who are taking high school geometry this year, and as far as I know, the only 7th grader in that class. Because these two classes are only available during a certain part of the day, he doens’t get to do the elective classes he wanted. Out of his elective classes one is an okay substitute, but the other was one he took last year. The teacher says he’ll probably make my son a teachers assistant this year. The nice thing is that both of these classes are only semester classes and the other substitute elective he’ll take next semester will be ceramics. So he’ll still be doing a craft as his two preferred classes were advanced art and advanced computers. Hopefully, he can do his two choices next year. However, if he passes the geometry class, he’ll have to walk to the local high school for the second year algebra class. That will really hamper his schedule freedom. But that is next year and right now, this year is off to a fine start.
When we got to the school Alex immediate hooked up with a group of boys who he hangs with at school. They are good kids and it was nice to see Alex immediately accepted. Friends help so much when your at school. And it’s nice to see Alex not be a loner.
