Learning to Fly

I’m a terrible housekeeper.

There are many contributing factors such as being a perfectionist, procrastination, laziness, being a packrat and I moved so much as a kid that I don’t have any attachment for my stuff. I also just don’t think to do chores. Somehow I just didn’t learn how to do that daily stuff that keeps a house running in good order. My sisters all have nice homes, so clearly they were learning something.

A friend of mine, also a packrat, has been a Flybaby for about a year now. Now you may be wondering what a Flybaby is. This is a term for us poor souls who need a little direction from the Flylady on how to keep our houses in order. She has been pestering me for over a year to join up and like any stubborn person, I resisted. Finally sick and tired of my home, I finally went to the website. I was immediately amused by the humor and sassiness of the Flylady. She also was once just like me and after reading many of the testimonials, I swear I’ve got twins scattered all over the country.

So, I’ve been flying now for about two weeks. Its interesting because they make it very clear that you didn’t become cluttered overnight and it will take time and small jobs to get uncluttered. So they have you do little things at first, build small routines and slowly you start to catch up on your home. I’ve been working on this for two weeks now. It will be work to make myself do what I’m told… and do it the way they suggest it. But hey, why reinvent the wheel?
