ID theft or bullying?

So I get a call from a company claiming to be a collection agency saying that I owe 400.00+ for some loan I took out in July from a online loan company. And that if I don’t agree to pay, they will take me to court. Either, I’m being bullied and scammed, or I’m the victim of identity theft. Either way, not good. Good thing I’m a fraud banker at work. I know what I need to do. The “collection agency” didn’t like hearing that I had received no deposits and if they took me to court I had my banking documents to prove I had received no money. Now I have to go see if there are really other accts open in my name.

Hopefully you didn’t offer them any personal information. Google their number. My guess is that they are a part of a growing number of scammers that call and say you are in default for one loan or another, and they then try to get you to tell them social or account numbers. Good luck!

I gave them nothing. Nor did they ask, actually. They just spent a lot of time telling me that their lawyers would make me pay in court and that I better get a lawyer.

I’ve received a bunch of calls from cust at the bank telling me about this type of call so I was suspicious from the get go. They also kept hanging up on me. But they gave me their number so I kept calling back till I got the information I wanted.

Huh. I got a call a bit ago from some random number, and when I picked up it said that “there’s a call for you, please wait” and then “all of our representatives are busy,” etc. I hung up, they haven’t called back.

    Argh.

When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get three emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove me from that service? Thanks a lot!
