what a week
I know it’s been a week since I have posted anything. But for those of you who find this site from greyducks know that we have had a trying week. For you that don’t go to greyducks site, here’s the basics. Last week our landlords gave us notice to catch up rent or move out. I wasn’t really surprised, but by the end of the week, we had raised enough to get us really close and the land lords were happy with that and we are now ok. Since it was a very stressful time and I don’t like talking to ppl when I’m stressed this journal was ignored. For those of you who read greyducks rant entry, you can guess why I didn’t want to say anything. I could rant myself, and talk about the situations that set this crappy week up. Or vent about having a husband who can’t handle the stress of bills so his wife, who learned no money skills from her parents, and so has had to learn the hard way, has had to deal with everything. But I’m not going to. I have this thing about saying things I don’t mean when I’m mad. Which means that when I get mad, I shut up. Greyduck can always tell when I’m pissed cause I won’t talk to nobody. It’s not the best way to handle being mad everytime but at least I’m not hurting anyones feelings for no reason.
On a good note. This weekend was also fun. I had a wedding reception to do and I had a great bride and groom. They took no time at all getting drunk, but considering the stress leading up to the ceremony, I never blame them. They were a fun group and up to anything I wanted them to do. I can’t stress enough how important it is to have a bride and groom who dance at their reception. Not every dance but at least part of it. People want to be with the couple, and every really successful reception I’ve had has been because of the bride and groom dancing. The cake was just beautiful, while every cake is basically white frosting, this had white squares with silver beads around the second layer, and the only color on the cake was provided by some green frosting in the shape of leaves and stems. We thought (catering and I) it was a nice cake but couldn’t understand what the green was for then the flowers showed up, and they had a rose theme with their flowers, and the flowers selected for the cake came over. They had a roses topper, which means you insert the rose stems into the cake and cover the top in them, and it’s always lovely. But the really neat part was then the florist inserted a rose into the cake right above the green stems, so it looked like standing roses around the bottom of the cake. It was very elegent and really cool. I have seen alot of cakes, and so I don’t get really impressed by them, but this one was really cool. I always love to see a bride who goes for something different.
As for the wedding co-ordinator, please. I have been a mobile dj for two years, and I know more about how to run a reception and wedding then any of the co-ordinators I’ve met this season. The smart ones handle the wedding and leave the reception to me, since it’s my job to run the reception and make it go smoothly. But I’ve been unlucky this year to have to deal with six of the most idiotic planners I met yet. Rule one, do not over plan your reception. Having the time set up to do the protocols is rediculous, it never works and interfers with the flow of the evening. Rule two, get the protocols all done at once. Spreading the toast, dances and tosses to different points of the evening does not keep your guests at the event. All it does is tire out the bride and irritate your guests because you have to keep stopping the evening which kills your party time. The ppl who are going to leave after the food aren’t going to stay for the dancing, which is why we always get all the protocols of the reception done after the food, they will be patient for that, but as soon as the dancing starts, they go home. I warn my brides, you lose that third when the dancing starts, it’s normal dont’ worry about it.
Alex played his violin at church. It goes toward an award he is earning in church. One has to do a series of projects and then when your done you get this little medalion. It’s a necklace for girls, tie-tack for boys. He did very well considering he doesn’t practice much at home. But his teacher teaches them by rote so he knows all the songs anyway. There are not alot of oppurtunities past elementary school for playing violin so he won’t be using it next year in middle school. His teacher is great since she teaches the kids voluntarily. She doesn’t get paid for it. We are really lucky to be in a school where all the teachers bend over backwards to make sure the kids have extra things to do.
oh, by the way, I have been working one hour a day on keeping my house clean. I said I would do it, and that’s what I’m doing. I’m proud of myself cause I didn’t lose it during this stessful week.
