However, its a sad realization that if I don’t start making them, I’m forgetting too much. I may only be working my DJ business now, but I have so much to do, that I’ve been forgetting things for the first time since I started this. Its great that I”m that busy…. but..

Yes, its been awhile since I last posted. I’ve been very busy and blogging just doesn’t come to the forefront of my thinking most days. However, I wanted to post my thoughts on something and thought it better to do it here then on a bunch of different forums.

For the majority of LDS members that I know, we, for the most part, ignore that Big Love is airing. I know some who love watching the show. I’ve yet to experience any weird reactions from people because of the show. However I was surprised to learn today that an episode of Big Love will be airing parts of one of our temple ceremonies. I have no idea what context they are creating that they felt this was a necessary part of the story, but I’m of two minds about the whole thing. A part of me is disappointed that something so sacred to me is about to be shown on TV. HOWEVER, the other part of me knows that what they are showing is going to be based on whatever the fundamentalist church uses of the ceremony…supposedly. The picture in TV Guide already tells me that something is different. I was amused when the article said that they got a former LDS member to oversee the accuracy of the scene. Now while they would not have been able to find a active member who would have helped the project, it seems a little odd to me to go get someone who left the church because they disagreed with it for some reason and then use their opinion to keep accuracy. um….

However, its not like you can’t find anything you want to know about the temple online. Enough people have left the church and posted their opinions, remembrances and whatever else they have about the temple and what goes on inside. I was unaware however, that the fundamentalist church even still used the endowment and sealing ceremonies. Of course, now that I think about it, it would follow that they are still using them, even if they no longer have the authority to do so. How accurate they still are I couldn’t vouch for.

As for how this would affect OUR church, it wouldn’t do much. This wouldn’t hurt the church in anyway. What does bother me is what context are they putting this information in. I know several people who were unsettled by their first time through the temple. While I was surprised with what I was learning, it also was like sitting in front of a big puzzle with someone taking the odd shaped that I hadn’t been able to place and showing me where they fit in the puzzle. I had a lot of “ah ha” moments my first time through. However, if you aren’t prepared, its going to seem a bit out of kilter. It is different then any other part of our “normal” services. And my worry is really how will what they show fit without sensationalizing it or making it seem weird. I already get enough weird questions as it is, and I really do enjoy discussing what the misconception may be and what the real issue actually is. But in this case, none of us can correct any misconceptions or explain what you might be looking at. I think overall that may be what is the most frustrating. The viewers are going to get a piece of something that is sacred and they are going to want to ask their temple going Mormon friend if there was any truth to what they saw and we can’t explain, verify, or deny anything that the viewer might see. Not because we don’t want to tell you, but because it is sacred and what you learn in the temple, while its very simple, is also very profound. Its a covenant you make with God and its between you and God. I know its not considered hip or normal these days to partake in such things, but its not unusual for those who are members of a detailed and involved theology.

One of the interesting things about working the graveyard shift for a bank is that you get very interesting people calling. Most calls during the day are people just wanting information as quickly as possible and then they are gone. But at night, you get the people who can’t sleep, or who have been stewing all day about fees and then those who are up at night as part of work. Some people want information and then are off the phone but you get a good bunch who want to yap with or yell at you.

Last night though, I think took the cake. So, the original reason for the call was so this customer could activate her debit card. She couldn’t remember her pin so I had to verify extra security questions. They are very specific and can’t be substituted. One of those pieces of information is the checking acct number. Now, this lady had forgotton that her debit card number is not her checking acct number, and since she only uses her card on this acct, I could understand the reason. She kept insisting that she didn’t have a checking acct number because she never wrote checks. So that was miscommunication number one. Then she wanted me to look up the last check she wrote on the acct. This really confused me and I tried to remind her that her acct number didn’t require that she write checks that she said she didn’t have. She finally explained about how she keeps records and that if I would look up the right information she could then look up her acct number from her records. By this point, she was very upset with me and I was just confused by what she was saying. But I asked her if I could put her on hold to look up the information she wanted that according to her shouldnt’ exist anyway, and after she said I could I heard her say the catholic prayer to ward off evil. This stopped me in my tracks. I had just been prayed against. I started to laugh and while I had this lady on hold I mentioned to my supervisor that this lady just prayed against me to ward off evil. Sadly the program that lets me look at check images was down and so I had to go back to this lady and regrettfully tell her I couldn’t look up the information she wanted. She then went on about how unhelpful I was, how I was obviously a miserable person and she couldn’t believe how I ever ended up in customer service. She suggested that I quit right then and there and go pray to God for help because I was so miserable and that I could stop being mean to people. She kept ranting and I generally stayed quiet so hopefully she would rant and hang up. But at one point I did have to remind her she could activate her card by just stepping into the branch and she asks, “How do you know I can even walk?”. By this point I was just done and signaled my manager to listen into the call while she continued on about how I was a terrible person. He eventually stepped in after a couple of minutes and told this lady that she was being abusive and to end the call.

I expect at some point this lady will be complaining to her branch about me. And I just have to laugh. I’ve been called all sorts of things by people unhappy about their accts. I’ve been told I’m a thief, that I”m stealing food from the mouths of children, and I’ve had people yell at the top of their lungs that I’m wrong and they will no longer talk to me. And before this call my favorite call was the little old lady who accused me of being a secret operative of Al Quida because I wouldn’t refund her overdraft fees. But being prayed against because this lady viewed me as evil just takes the cake. *chuckles*

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.
You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don’t stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow.
You are light hearted and accepting. You don’t get worked up easily.
Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You are a free spirit, and you resent anyone who tries to fence you in.
You are unpredictable, adventurous, and always a little surprising.
You may miss out by not settling down, but you’re too busy having fun to care.

So I get this nifty little cd in the mail from my work that gives a nice overview to my benefits. Explains that I have to fill out benefit paperwork before I start so that I can get coverage as soon as I start work. Neat right? I think so.

So I’m going over the dental plan. Now, as far as dental plans go, its pretty normal. Its actually a nicer plan then was on my exhusbands old job health coverage. But when you compare dental coverages to what you get covered in medical. It makes no bloody sense at all.

Riddle me this. Why is it that medical insurance will cover any amount of work up to a million dollars for your body, but will only cover, in this case, 1500 bucks per person a year for your teeth? This includes all costs of basics exams and more restorative care. This makes no sense to me. Now, if your a nazi in taking care of your teeth then this is no big deal, but if your like me and hate flossing, then you’ve got a little more work to do. However, I could be a hypocondriac and I can get all the payment I want. But if its your teeth you only get up to 1500 bucks covered. They do provide some orthodontic coverage, up to a grand your WHOLE LIFE!! Last time I looked, braces cost more then that by a long shot. E will be getting braces.

I mean, I’m glad I”ll have coverage because I will be using it. I need a bridge for my two missing molars. And without coverage it was already going to cost me around 4K to get. So I’ll only have to pay around 2500 bucks for it but good grief people, Dental coverage should be just a tad more then that!!!
